Brian Fox Ellis will present the program Civil War Ghosts and Legends at Dickson Mounds Museum Auditorium on Saturday, March 10, 2012 beginning at 2:00 p.m. This free program is presented by the Fulton County Historical and Genealogical Society. Hear true stories and legends woven with traditional songs from the most un-civil war. Join storyteller Brian Fox Ellis as he takes listeners back in time to the bloody battlefields, gruesome field hospitals and haunted graveyards of Americas deadliest war. In the persona of Mathias Stritt, a German immigrant who was on the first to enlist in Peoria, Illinois and later marched with Sherman as he burned Atlanta and marched to the sea, Fox intersperses a rich knowledge of the war with stories, poetry, and period songs. Parents should note -- stories contain strong, graphically descriptive accounts. Parental discretion is encouraged. Brian Fox Ellis is an internationally acclaimed storyteller, historian and museum consultant. He works with The Field Museum, The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and numerous smaller historical society museums to develop curriculum, write interpretive booklets and present staff training on storytelling as an interpretive tool. Following the performance, the Fulton County Historical and Genealogical Society will conduct a short hands-on workshop for students exploring their family trees. "Genealogy Detective Kits" will be given to each child 4th grade and up to play detective - to look for clues and sift through information for answers about their ancestors. Performing a combination of original tunes and fine instrumentals, these two road warriors will present a night of original songs and fine instrumental playing on guitars, mandolins, Dobro, jew’s harp harmonica fiddle and accordion. Ken's touring band The Cadillac Cowboys was one of the premier country rock bands of the Midwest playing up to 300 nights a year and performing for the President of the United States and in places as diverse as Key West, FL and New York City. Always hailed as a premier showman, Ken takes a simpler approach these days focusing on original music and instrumentals that harkens back to the early day of country music. He calls his unique fiddle style hoe-jun; part hoe down and part Cajun. Ken’s country roots style fits hand in glove with Chris’s Americana-roots playing and while there won’t be any fiddle playing on the tables these days, it’s guaranteed to be a fine time!
