Celebrate Earth Day with the Emiquon Partnership

The Emiquon Partnership - Illinois State Museum Dickson Mounds Museum, The Nature Conservancy, University of Illinois, Therkildsen Field Station, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service--will be hosting an Earth Day event on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The event will take place at The Nature Conservancy’s Lakeside and Wetland Observatories at Emiquon Preserve Visitor Use Area. Among the activities: a voyageur canoe trip, courtesy of the Mackinaw Valley Long Rifles, to an open-water ecology laboratory on Thompson Lake, kite flying throughout the afternoon, and an Environscape demonstration (2:30 – 2:45 p.m.). Lakeside Observatory walk and talk presentations will run from 1:10-1:30 p.m. and 3:00-3:20 p.m., while the Wetland Observatory walk and talk presentations will be held from 2:00-2:20 p.m. and 3:30-3:50 p.m. Wetland Wildlife, a hands-on program, will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Wetland Observatory. This event is open to the public and admission is free. Activities will be for all ages. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the outdoors. Restrooms are located at Dickson Mounds Museum. Parking is available at The Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Preserve Visitor Use Area. In the event of rain, indoor activities will be held at Dickson Mounds Museum. The Emiquon Partnership consists of Dickson Mounds Museum, The Nature Conservancy, UIS Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, working together to provide research, information, and educational opportunities on the restoration of the Emiquon Nature Preserve and Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge.
