Big Things in Small Packages: The Archaeology of Small Sites
- Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
- Date: Tuesday, April 03, 2012, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
The next Illinois Valley Archaeological Society (IVAS) lecture will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. and will feature Dr. Michael Conner, Curator of Anthropology at the Illinois State Museum – Dickson Mounds Museum, presenting Big Things in Small Packages: The Archaeology of Small Sites. The monthly program is held at the Dickson Mounds auditorium. While large, spectacular sites like Dickson Mounds and Cahokia can teach us a great deal about the past, small sites also have much to offer. They have produced glimpses into everyday life and evidence of unexpected relationships between regions. This talk will discuss several such small excavations, including a family farmstead that was inhabited for perhaps 10-20 years in the lower Illinois Valley about A.D. 1250. IVAS programs are free of charge and the public is welcome. For more information call 309.547.3721.
