Hickory Ridge Concert Series: Songs of the Seas
- Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
- Date: Saturday, November 19, 2011, 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Maritime folksinger Tom Kastle will bring his songs of the Great Lakes and oceans to the Hickory Ridge Concert Series this Saturday, November the 19th at 7:30 PM at the Dickson Mounds Museum. Tom is a singer, songwriter, sailor, and teller of tales, based in the Great Lakes, who has traveled the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Pacific. With one foot in the singer/songwriter world and the other foot firmly planted in the traditional maritime realm, Kastle brings a sense of "writing out of the tradition" to his music that is evident in his recordings and performances. For two decades Tom toured as half of Tom & Chris Kastle producing a dozen recordings and a soundtrack for public television. Kastle’s fascination for the waterways runs deep. Along with singing songs of the seas, Tom has a master captain's license, and has sailed the Great Lakes for decades. There is a strong sense of "story" in all his work; both spoken and sung. He will be performing songs from his new solo album, Tommy's Gone to Hilo. When ashore, he lives in a 19th century log cottage on the shore of one of Madison, Wisconsin's lakes. Please note the museum Gift Shop will be open this month. This is a great opportunity to look for a gift for that someone special.
