      The most profound change in Woodland Period technology was the invention of the bow and arrow about 1,500 years ago. Armed with this weapon, Native Americans developed new hunting strategies and also used the bow and arrow as a weapon. Other technological advanced produced new styles of pottery, wood working and garden tools, buildings, and fostered the invention of ground stone pipes.
