Daring Jumping Spider (Phidippus audax)

The Daring Jumping Spider gets its name from its habit of leaping on its prey. It is a hunter that does not spin webs.

Description: This spider is 1/3 to 1/2 inch long and has a large, stocky body. It is black with long white hairs. The abdomen has a triangular white spot and some specimens also have white spots or bars. Various body parts are iridescent. It has eight eyes and very sharp vision.

Habitat: Jumping spiders are found inside houses and outside on stones, sticks, and soil. Its range is from southern Canada to all of the United States.
