Illinois State Museum Super Saturday: American Indian Harvest
SPRINGFIELD- Visit the Illinois State Museum on November 10 for the next Super Saturday event, “American Indian Harvest” from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Children and families will examine artifacts from the anthropology collection, meet Museum expert Marge Schroeder, explore the Peoples of the Past exhibit, and discover the foods harvested by American Indians hundreds of years ago. Children are invited to compare traditional harvest techniques of the past with today, craft colorful mosaics out of dried beans, discover historic and prehistoric tools, and more! In addition, guest expert Alan Harrison of Dixon, Illinois will share his insight on the traditions of American Indians through his collection of animal pelts, artifacts, and tools. Super Saturdays at the Illinois State Museum are designed for children 4-8 years old and are free and open to the public. Most activities can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes, although participants may stay as long as they wish. Parents are invited to participate with their children. The Super Saturday series is sponsored by Bank of Springfield. The Illinois State Museum promotes discovery, learning, and an appreciation of Illinois’ natural, cultural, and artistic heritage. The Museum’s extensive collections and research activities provide the foundation for exhibitions and public programs that tell the story of the land, life, people, and art of Illinois. The Illinois State Museum is located at 502 S. Spring Street (the corner of Spring and Edwards Streets) in Springfield, and is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby, and the building is ADA accessible.
