The Fine Art and Decorative Art Collections of the Illinois State Museum contain many objects that reflect concerns common to all of us. As we look at and investigate objects that may have been made miles and years apart, we can make historical, thematic, or emotional connections between them.

Explore the connections we've found in our collections, and see if you discover other connections among these objects or in art works that you see in other places.

We have chosen four themes to investigate.

Coming of Age examines art that reflects issues and concerns about becoming an adult.
Remembrance is a glimpse at art that helps us remember friends and family no longer with us.
Abundance explores art that shows gratitude for the gifts we receive in life.
Sense of Place is a look at art that captures the spirit of a place.
