Paleo-Indians and the Economy of Hunting

Like humans for most of prehistory, the Paleo-Indians of the American Bottom were highly mobile hunters and gatherers. They relied on wild plant foods and large game animals for subsistence. Movement to where these food resources were seasonally and locally abundant was the rule for the Paleo-Indian economy.

Nevertheless, the stone tools made from very different types of chert indicate that even these Native American pioneers were involved in the exchange of raw materials over great distances.
