Ligumia subrostrata (Pondmussel)
The pondmussel shell is oblong and pointed at the posterior end. It is a thin shell with six to eight wavy ridges of beak sculpture. The smooth surface is dull, greenish yellow or darker, sometimes with visible rays. This species lives in the mud or sand of small ponds and creeks. It occurs in the southwest two-thirds of Illinois. Conservation status: locally common. Taxonomy: Order Unionoida, Superfamily Unionoidea, Family Unionoidea, Subfamily Lampsilinae.
