Fusconaia subrotunda (Long-solid)
The Long-solid mussel shell is large (up to five inches in length) and elliptical. It has smooth texture and varies from brown to dark brown with age. Younger shells have green rays on the umbos. This species lives in the gravel in large rivers. In Illinois it lived on the Wabash River. Conservation status: extirpated from Illinois Taxonomy: Order, Unionoida; Superfamily Unionoidea; Family, Unionidae, Subfamily Ambleminae.
