Fatmucket (Lampsilis siliquoidea)

The Fatmucket (Lampsilis siliquoidea) is common in small to medium-sized streams, but is also found occasionally in the Illinois River. Shells of the male fatmucket were more valuable to button makers than females because the female shell is inflated and difficult to cut. (Conservation Status: Currently Stable)
