Mapping the stories of our ancestors with music, arts & poetry
The mission of the Emancipation MAP Project is to honor persons who were enslaved in the United States by promoting their identification and history, and their artistic emancipation through original music, arts and poetry. The Project also seeks to promote a greater understanding of slave songs through musical research, and by recreating the music in its original style and also in modern versions of the songs in contemporary styles. EMAP hopes to create a slave census (database) that can be used along with the U.S. Census.
