Brownbag Lectures: Tracing Thom Whalen's Influences & A Sneak Peak at some Protext Art!

  • Location: ISM Research & Collections Center, Springfield
  • Date: Wednesday, March 05, 2014, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

ISM Curator of Art Robert Sill will discuss some of his research for his next two curatorial projects: FOCUS 4, THOM WHALEN and Protext Art: When Visual Art Meets the Written Word.

This slideshow will wander through some of the art by artists who have influenced FOCUS 4 artist Thom Whalen’s artistic oeuvre.  By examining the sources of the artist’s inspiration, we get a glimpse into his creative process and how those influences get combined into his unique production. FOCUS 4 opens April 14. (ISM Lockport Gallery).

Sill will also provide images and some background on the art and artists that will be featured in the upcoming exhibition he is curating called Protext Art: When Visual Art Meets the Written Word.  This thematic group exhibition opens September 8. (ISM Chicago Gallery).
