Meet up with friends for SECOND Friday at the Illinois State Museum! Enjoy live local musicians, craft beer & drinks, local food, and art + science. Investigate the museum’s many original dioramas, explore our latest exhibits, shop the Museum Store, and learn more about the processes that make local art, produce, products, talents, and businesses so special.

Custom Cup Coffee
Looking to fill a void for locally roasted coffee in Springfield, IL, Brent and Kendra Boesdorfer have developed a microroastery to deliver the freshest coffee possible. With the renewed market for all things fresh, local, and craft, they designed Custom Cup to specialize in creating small batch, custom, and roast to order coffee in the heart of Springfield. From learning new home brewing methods to understanding the experiences that each coffee can present, they look forward to sharing their obsession for great coffee with you. Taste the difference at Second Friday.

Cooper’s StrEATside Bistro Food Truck
Justin Cooper is a food lover at heart with over 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry. His background has inspired him to serve local and fresh food whenever possible. The Cooper’s StrEATside Bistro Food Truck has been a fan favorite at the museum, but this time, Justin is coming inside to demo his culinary prowess in action!

Shay on Sax
The lovely, talented vocalist and saxophonist Shay on Sax leads this evening’s jazz trio. She carries a long resume of musical accomplishments that include studying music at Xavier University of LA, performing with several notable Grammy winning artists, a previous regular stage act on Bourbon Street New Orleans, and most recently managing and performing in the hot, new local party band, The Paper Route.

Illinois Artisan Greg Gibbs
The Museum Store will feature an Illinois Artisan demonstrating their original craft. Meet ceramic artist Greg Gibbs and become engaged in his unique process. Pattern and form take precedence in his nature-inspired, functional works.

Shake, rattle, & POUR! Relax and enjoy any drink of your choice from this fully catered bar – including local, craft selections. Some of the best bartenders in our area are at your service!

New Exhibits
Visit The Science of Extinction in our Hot Science Gallery and ask yourself, “How did mammoths and mastodons go extinct?” New research by museum scientists puts the life and death of extinct elephants under the microscope. Also new, is the contemporary art exhibit Protext: When Words Enter Visual Art, in the second floor galleries.

The Illinois State Museum inspires discovery and caring about Illinois’ cultural and natural resources and heritage.
