Experience the Illinois State Museum After Hours! Meet up with friends for SECOND Friday at the Illinois State Museum! Enjoy live local musicians, craft beer & drinks, local food, and art + science! Investigate the museum’s many original dioramas, meet curators, and explore the Pro-Text art exhibit featuring contemporary Illinois Artists. Learn about The Science of Extinction during the Hot Science Gallery opening. Museum paleontologists will be on hand to answer your questions.

Hot Science Gallery: The Science of Extinction How did mammoths and mastodons go extinct? New research by museum scientists puts the life and death of extinct elephants under the microscope. Explore Ice Age beasts with the museum’s paleontologists and learn how new analyses of old bones connect the importance of prehistoric extinctions to our modern world.
Art + Science Make ‘n’ Take Discover your own creativity with the museum’s pop- up make n take art studio project.
Lowder & Manning The dynamic duo of singer-songwriters Jill Manning and Jaigh Lowder will perform their own original music and rich guitar styling. Enjoy listening with your friends at pop-up café tables under the oak tree.
Illinois Stewardship Alliance – Seed Savers The Illinois Stewardship Alliance, a collaborative partner, returns with activities and materials that explain the importance of “seed saving.” Learn to identify different seeds, learn why some become extinct, and discover how we can prevent seed extinction.
Illinois Artisan Janice Rockwell The Museum Store will feature artist Janice Rockwell. Learn about encaustic painting and her most recent work that celebrates the majesty of cows.
