Central U.S. Earthquakes: What We Know and What to Expect

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Thursday, October 16, 2014, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

In this talk, presented by Robert Bauer, engineering geologist at the Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS), the speaker will discuss what is known about earthquakes in the Central U.S., both historic and pre-historic, as well as what to do during an earthquake and why.

This presentation is part of the Museum’s celebration of The Great ShakeOut and National Fossil Day. Beginning at 5:00 pm, visitors can view fossil collections presented by members of the Lincoln Orbit Earth Science Society (LOESS) and Museum experts. Hands-on experiments and demonstrations related to earthquakes will also be presented.
