  Satur-Play! Cloud in Jar

Satur-Play! Cloud in Jar

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, October 25, 2014, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Every Saturday is Super!
Experience Satur-Play! at the Illinois State Museum. Be drawn in by fun science experiments and art projects so entertaining and intriguing, you may forget you are learning! Recommended for the whole family and suggested for ages 3-10.

October Activities:

October 4 - Elephant Toothpaste: Create oozing, steaming foam during this cool kitchen chemistry experiment. It’s called elephant toothpaste because it’s as thick as what an elephant might use for toothpaste!

October 11 - Rocks that Glow: Explore the dark cave in the Play Museum and see what kind of things (Vaseline, tonic water, and rocks!) glow in the dark under a black light.

October 18 - Quake and Shake!: Celebrate Earth Science Week at the Museum! Millions of people will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” at 10:16 a.m. on October 16 during the Great Shake Out Earthquake Drills. For this Satur-Play, we will build and test a variety of materials on a homemade shake table.

October 25 - Cloud in a Jar: Using shaving cream as the “cloud” and food coloring as the “rain,” see how much fun an eye dropper of colored water can be!

Satur-Play! is an engaging hands-on enhancement program for the Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum at the Illinois State Museum. This exciting new program features science and art activities that children and families can participate in while visiting the Play Museum. A different theme and activity will be offered each week on Saturday from 11am to 3pm. Registration is not required. Free and open to the public. For more information, call the Education Section at (217) 782-5955.
