  Satur-Play! Float Your Boat

Satur-Play! Float Your Boat

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, July 19, 2014, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Every Saturday is Super!
Experience Satur-Play! at the Illinois State Museum. Be drawn in by fun science experiments and art projects so entertaining and intriguing, you may forget you are learning! When there isn’t a Super Saturday (2nd Saturday of each month), expect a Satur-Play! activity from 11AM-3PM in the Play Museum. Recommended for the whole family and suggested for ages 3-10.

June & July Activities:
June 7 | Coiled Art   The traditional coiling method was used to make baskets. However, another version is wrapping yarn around a thick cord with colorful strands of yarn. We will add all our projects together to design a coiled collage!

June 21 | Stomp Rockets  Have you ever wanted to engineer a rocket? Here's your chance! Watch as your rocket soars through the air with this cool homemade rocket launcher.

June 28 | Magic Milk  While visiting the ISM for Amazing Agriculture Day, help us make magic milk. (Ok, so it's science not magic, but be amazed at what colors you will see!)

July 5 | Bugs  Create your own ladybug with plaster. Watch the "exoskeleton" harden right before your eyes.

July 19 | Float Your Boat  Engineer a boat made of paper, aluminum foil, or plastic to determine which material holds the most weight.

July 26 | Gelatin Printmaking  Who knew you could use gelatin as a printmaking plate? Find out what types of things make great textures.

Satur-Play! is an engaging hands-on enhancement program for the Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum at the Illinois State Museum. This exciting new program features science and art activities that children and families can participate in while visiting the Play Museum. A different theme and activity will be offered each week on Saturday with the exception of Super Saturdays. Registration is not required. For more information, call the Education Section at (217) 782-5955.
