  Reuse & Rediscover

Reuse & Rediscover

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, April 26, 2014, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

The Illinois State Museum invites you to come and play at “Reuse & Rediscover” on Saturday, April 26 from 11:00AM to 3:00PM. During this fun event, children will do a science experiment with Styrofoam, participate in a Recycle Relay, and create an art mural from re-purposed plastic lids. Recommended for families with children ages 3-10. Free and open to the public.

Earth Day is April 22 but the Illinois State Museum celebrates all month long!
Play, learning, and discovery doesn’t have to come from something shiny and new. Earth Day reminds us to reuse materials and to rediscover what can be learned from and created with them. Join us April 26 for these fun and educational activities:

● Bottle Cap Art Mural Project – Reuse various lids and bottle caps to create a large group art mural – just like professional artists!
● Styrofoam Science Experiment – Discover why corn packaging peanuts are more eco-friendly than Styrofoam peanuts. What will it take to dissolve each?
● Recycle Relay – Search and hunt for different disposable items – how do we figure out if they are recyclable or not?

The Illinois State Museum inspires discovery and caring about Illinois’ cultural and natural resources and heritage. The Museum’s extensive collections and research activities provide the foundation for exhibitions and public programs that tell the story of the land, life, people, and art of Illinois. The Illinois State Museum is open from 8:30 am - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby and the building is ADA accessible.
