Super Saturdays at the Museum: Sharktacular

Super Saturdays at the Museum: Sharktacular

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, August 09, 2014, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Believe it or not…
Millions of years before Illinois boasted bountiful prairie grasses or amazing agriculture, our state was covered by an ocean. Many sea creatures swam, crawled, or scurried over this land we call home – including sharks!

Join us at Super Saturday as we kick off Discovery Channel’s popular Shark Week on August 9. Learn through play about spectacular sharks from ancient Illinois and beyond. Children will get the chance to measure themselves next to the largest shark in the sea, make a fun shark hat (that eats their head!), create a porthole that looks into Illinois’ ocean, examine fossilized shark poop, and much more!

Bring the whole family to Super Saturdays at the State Museum! Super Saturdays are held the 2nd Saturday of each month from 11am-3pm and offer free, thematic activities recommended for children ages 3-8. Activities take 30 to 45 minutes to complete and feature crafts and educational games. Parents and families are encouraged to participate. Registration is not required for this activity. Free and open to the public. For more information, call the Education Section at (217) 782-6044. Super Saturdays are sponsored by Bank of Springfield.
