Handmade for the Holidays. Wander the Illinois State Museum and discover the work of twelve Illinois Artisans. Artisans working in glass, jewelry, fiber, photography, and pottery will be demonstrating their craft and displaying fine art in a festive exhibition of original pieces. For two days, explore the contents of these artisans' studios under an Oak Tree, along the Illinois and Cache Rivers, and through the changing landscapes of our breathtaking state. Shop Local. Shop Art. Still looking for that perfect piece? Our Museum Store, which exhibits an expansive selection of Illinois Artisan works throughout the state, will also be open and ready to assist you during the Spree.
Discover Art. Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2PM a new space on the museum's second floor will be unveiled. Temporary/Permanent will allow visitors to encounter a series of three-month temporary exhibitions representing a broad variety of fine and decorative arts from the permanent collection. Its inaugural exhibition will highlight paintings by one of Illinois' premier portrait painters of the 19th century, George Peter Alexander Healy, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of his birth. Notable portraits: Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Henry W. Longfellow, Daniel Webster and more.
