Super Saturdays at the Museum: At Home in the 1860's

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, July 13, 2013, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Explore life at home in Illinois during the 1860s. The July 13 Super Saturday “At Home in the 1860s” from 11:00am-3:00pm at the Illinois State Museum offers children and their families a chance to discover what day-to-day life was like during the Civil War. Activities will include nineteenth-century inspired crafts such as creating wax candles, a family fun area with nineteenth-century games, and more. Children will also learn how families communicated with loved ones on the Civil War battlefield, and have the opportunity to write a letter or create a drawing for currently deployed, delayed, or wounded soldiers through a partnership with Operation Gratitude. This event is presented as part of Springfield’s History Comes Alive! program.

Bring the whole family to Super Saturdays at the State Museum! Super Saturdays are held the 2nd Saturday of each month from 11am-3pm and offer free, thematic activities recommended for children ages 3-8. Activities take 30 to 45 minutes to complete and feature crafts and educational games. Parents and families are encouraged to participate. Registration is not required for this activity. Free and open to the public. For more information, call the Education Section at (217) 782-6044. Super Saturdays are sponsored by Bank of Springfield.
