Super Saturdays at the Museum: Illinois Women from A to Z

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, March 09, 2013, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

In celebration of Women’s History and Awareness Month, the Illinois State Museum presents the “Illinois Women from A-Z” Super Saturday on March 9 from 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Join us at the Museum as we spotlight women from Illinois’ past and present such as Jane Addams, Mae Jemison, and Alison Krauss.  Families and children will have the opportunity to partake in a poetry exercise featuring the work of Illinois poet laureate Gwendolyn Brooks, and create a portrait inspired by work featured in the new exhibition Civil War Quilters: Loyal Hearts of Illinois. Other activities will include games and a search activity. Participants will also be able to explore art and artifacts from the Museum’s collections, including an original Dorothy Hamill doll!

Bring the whole family to Super Saturdays at the State Museum! Super Saturdays offer free, thematic activities recommended for children ages 4-8. Activities take 30 to 45 minutes to complete and feature crafts and educational games. Parents and families are encouraged to participate. Registration is not required for this activity. For more information, call the Education Section at (217) 782-6044. Super Saturdays are sponsored by Bank of Springfield.
