Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
Date: Wednesday, October 17, 2012, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The Museum is partnering with the National Park Service for the 3rd annual National Fossil Day. Come to the Museum to see fossils up close, touch specimens, and see real science in action with Dr. Chris Widga, ISM Assistant Curator of Geology. From 9:30-11:30 am and 2:00-5:00 pm visitors will have a chance to observe Dr. Widga as he removes a pair of Mastodont jaws from the Changes: Dynamic Illinois Environments exhibition for analysis as part of ongoing research about how these animals became extinct.
In addition to observing Dr. Widga's work, visitors can see internationally acclaimed fossils from the Museum's collections and interact with docents in the Changes exhibition; examine fossils under the videomicroscope in the Play Museum; and receive a commemorative bookmark.
