  Civil War Nurse, Clara Barton

Civil War Nurse, Clara Barton

  • Location: ISM Lockport Gallery, Lockport
  • Date: Sunday, September 28, 2014, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

History comes to life in this first-person portrayal by historian Leslie Goddard. Clara Barton earned fame as the first woman to serve as a nurse on the front lines of a battlefield. This first-person program introduces Barton as a tireless worker who faced remarkable challenges in her quest to care for wounded soldiers. Learn about the medical conditions during the American Civil War and about the courage required for a woman who dared to brave the war’s front lines. This event is part of the free Sunday Series during the exhibition Civil War Quilters: Loyal Hearts of Illinois. Please RSVP to info-lockport@museum.state.il.us or by calling 815-838-7400. Seating is limited.
