Nature Trek: Experience a Voyageur Canoe

Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting a Voyageur Canoe Experience as part of the Nature Trek series on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 9:00 am. Led by Museum staff, participants will help paddle a 38-foot canoe on Thompson Lake at the Emiquon Preserve and learn what life was like for the French voyageurs that traveled through the area in the seventeenth century.

Registration is required with an extended deadline of July 10, 2015. There is no fee to participate. All participants will be required to sign a waiver/liability form before canoeing. Meet promptly at 9:00 am at the Lakeside Observatory boat launch at the Emiquon Preserve along IL - Rte. 78/97. Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoors and have adequate water, sunscreen, sunglasses, large brimmed hat, and bandana. Participants are welcome to bring a snack as the program will last through the morning.

The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
