Hickory Ridge Concert Series: The Shanites

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Saturday, January 17, 2015, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series welcomes the return of the driving sounds of “New Irish” music as The Shanites take the stage Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 7:00 pm. This Bloomington based celtic group has been performing around the state creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a party below deck of the Titanic.

In 2001 The Bloomington Pantograph named The Shanties “Best Local Irish Band”. While there is nothing sweeter than an Irish ballad, The Shanties focus on the up-tempo rowdier melodies of Ireland. With Chris Golick on fiddle and guitar, John Parkhurst on mandolin and guitar, Jayson Griffith on bodhran and Kris Lewis Parkhurst on guitar, the group uses their performances as a celebration of Irish music and culture. In 2011 The Shanties released their first CD, “Fear Not”.

Please note that this is a new time for the Hickory Ridge Concert Series. “We wanted to make it easier for folks to enjoy an evening of great music and still get home at a reasonable time” said Artistic Director Chris Vallillo. In addition, the admission fee has increased to $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids under 12.

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is supported in part by a grant from the Two River’s Arts Council, the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is hosted by singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo.

Concerts are held the 3rd Saturday of every month at Dickson Mounds Museum and begin at 7:00 p.m. with the museum lobby opening at 6:00 p.m. Coffee, drinks, and a variety of desserts are available during intermission. Sitting is limited to the first 150 people.

The Dickson Mounds Branch of the Illinois State Museum is located between Lewistown and Havana off routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day. Tours and special programs are available for groups with reservations.
