Cowboy Singer at Hickory Ridge

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Saturday, December 20, 2014, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Cowboy singer Bob Bovee returns to the Hickory Ridge Concert Series Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Dickson Mounds Museum. Bob lives in the rural area of southeastern Minnesota. An internationally recognized performer, he plays guitar, harmonica, autoharp and banjo, sings and yodels, and is also a humorist and storyteller. His performances include a liberal dose of traditional cowboy songs, southern mountain music, blues and rags, and a varied assortment of songs picked up over his 43 years as a full time musician.

He has entertained audiences from the San Diego Folk Festival to Merlefest in North Carolina up to Winnipeg, Canada and across the sea for five tours in Europe. For several years one of Bovee's main sources of income was streetsinging. He carried that craft to the streets, parks and outdoor venues of San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Denver, Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis, New York City and many others. During that time he composed the song "Streetsinger's Heaven", a whimsical view of the afterlife for street performers, a song that has been recorded seven times besides his own versions. His numerous recordings since 1977 include releases on the Train on the Island, Marimac, Copper Creek, Flying Fish and Smithsonian Folkways labels.

Please note the concerts will now begin at 7:00 pm each month.

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is supported in part by a grant from the Two River’s Arts Council, the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is hosted by singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo. (hickory-ridge-concert-series on the web)
