The Old Men Boys at Hickory Ridge

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Saturday, November 15, 2014, 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series welcomes The Old Men Boys to the stage Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dickson Mounds Museum.  This 5 piece acoustic band performs an exciting mix of fiddle tunes, cowboy songs, contemporary folk, acoustic blues and novelty numbers with reckless abandon and unbridled joy.

The Old Men Boys have been performing together since 1996, with appearances at a variety of outdoor festivals, farmer’s markets, art openings and private parties. Though they have appeared at the Normal Theater, the Coffee Hound and with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra for a Christmas Pops Concert at Braden Auditorium and Sangamon Auditorium in Springfield, they especially enjoy farm and backyard parties when the weather cooperates.

The band has recorded one CD titled “We’re Old — But We’re Slow”. Members include Mark Austill, percussion and vocals; Bruce Bergethon, fiddle, mandolin, mandola and vocals; Dick File, guitar and vocals; Jan Holder, mandolin; Ken Holder, banjo, harmonica, bouzouki, resonator guitar, kazoo and vocals; Chris Kaufman, doghouse bass and vocals.

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is supported in part by a grant from the 2 River’s Arts Council, the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is hosted by singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo. (hickory-ridge-concert-series on the web) Concerts are held the 3rd Saturday of every month at Dickson Mounds Museum and begin at 7:30 p.m. with the museum lobby opening at 6:30 p.m.  Coffee, drinks, and a variety of desserts are available during intermission.  There is an admission charge of $5.00 per adult and $3.00 for children under 12.  Sitting is limited to the first 150 people.
