Nature Track: Geology Tour

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Sunday, June 22, 2014, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Please Note: The Nature Track Geology Tour has been moved from Saturday, June 28 at 9am to Sunday, June 22 at 1pm.

Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting a Geology Tour of the Illinois River Valley as part of the Nature Track series on Sunday, June 22, 2014. Led by Museum staff, participants will explore the Illinois River Valley and learn about its history. We will begin by exploring a 290-320 million-year-old sandstone outcrop, testimony of Illinois’ marine past and then consider the impacts of a series of Ice Age events that shaped the present-day landscape.

Participants will receive a field guide for the trip and must provide their own transportation. Meet at the Museum promptly at 1:00 p.m. We will caravan to a variety of location within 10 miles of the Museum. The program is free and registration is not required. Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoors.

The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
