Be an Archaeologist for a Day

Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting “Be an Archaeologist for a Day” for kids ages 9-16 years old on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Kids will work alongside professional archaeologists and learn excavation and artifact identification techniques, and how to process finds. The program will begin with hands-on preparatory activities indoors, and then, weather permitting, will be held outdoors for the afternoon. The program fee is $2 for Illinois State Museum Society members and $4 for non-members per child. Registration is required with a deadline of Monday, September 9th. Space is limited with a maximum of 10 participants. Each participant is required to provide his/her own sack lunch, drink, and snacks, and must dress appropriately for the weather and outdoor work. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America encouraged to participate as this program may fulfill some badge requirements. The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
