Edwards Trace at 200: Old Tales and New Discoveries

David Brady, Illinois Historian, will present a lecture on the history associated with the Edwards Trace at the monthly meeting of the Illinois Valley Archaeological Society on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dickson Mounds Museum auditorium.  The public is welcome and there is no charge.
 
The first part of the presentation will outline the history associated with Edwards during the War of 1812 and going back further in its history to Native American, European, and Anglo-American and the possibility of prehistoric use and the geography of Illinois in which created it.
 
The second part will be an interactive online web-site using the Esri, ArcGis software program.  Mr. Brady will show an overlay of Edwards Route of 1812, the 1816 Ft. Clark Road and geographic and historical sites within its corridor.  With the use of new and old technology LIDAR/TIN imagining, GPS, UDSA photographs, historic plats and Government Land Office Maps, topography maps David can show extant sections of the trace and historic sites within its corridor.
 
Added to the presentation will be images and descriptions of artifacts collected by land owners along the corridor.
 
The Illinois State Museum­Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
