October Feature: Eric Jensen

  • Location: Illinois Artisans, Chicago, Chicago
  • Date: Saturday, September 13, 2014 through Friday, October 31, 2014 , 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Long time Chicago potter Eric Jensen is known for his functional ceramics that resist both symmetry but maintain an elegance of design. Hand building each cup, platter or teapot using slabs of porcelain clay, Jensen’s work accentuates time and contemplation that goes into each object. The resulting forms have gentle lines and silhouettes that often appear to lean. Yet, despite its silky smooth surface and delicate glaze work, each piece is functional and dishwasher safe. Jensen’s recent work includes photo transfers onto the surface of larger forms. After transferring the photo to the clay, it is then broken down and pulled apart as the clay is stretched and formed. A new collection of Jensen’s ceramics will be on display at Illinois Artisans, Chicago this October.
