August Feature: Carole Hennessy

  • Location: Illinois Artisans, Chicago, Chicago
  • Date: Friday, August 01, 2014 through Friday, September 12, 2014 , 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

We are delighted to present artisan Carole Hennessy. Featured now through mid-September are Hennessy's superb washes focused on the Midwest landscape.

Carole Hennessy’s watercolor paintings, heavily influenced by the farmland of the Midwest, blend reality with abstraction as they translate organic landscapes into patterns of geometric shapes. Lonely barns sit atop flat squares, rectangles and circles, simultaneously presenting linear and aerial perspectives of the countryside. In a recent interview, Hennessy gave us some insight into her artistic process as well as her personal relationship with the rural scenery of the Midwest.

“I’ve been looking at this landscape since I was a child. When we lived in Quincy we would drive down to the city all the time because all our family lived here and during the trip I would just draw.” Read more about Hennessy's work

A variety of Carole Hennesy’s watercolors are featured at the Illinois Artisans, Chicago through September 12, 2014. See images of the exhibition.
