Zofia Tomala, Chicago, IL Will be featured this Novembet at Illinois Artisans, Chicago 100 W. Randolph, Suite 2-200, for more info: 312.814.5321 Having a lifelong passion for making art, I hold a masters degree in print and design from Governor State University. Now using printing techniques, I blend form, texture and color to produce contemporary-ancient whimsical pieces in ceramic media. I make all my pieces by hand and each are one of a kind. I start with low firing earthenware clay. Because it is white, it reflects light through some glazes making for brighter more vivid colors. My pieces are crafted, most times to be asymmetrical. Each piece is like a canvas in which painting is meticulously applied using different colors and glazes. When I look at something ordinary, I see images that are hiding in them; faces, designs, forms that ordinarily go unnoticed. I use inspiration from these hidden treasures in forming my won work. My art for me is a language. It is my expression of what I cannot express in words.
