  The Illinois State Museum promotes discovery, learning, and an appreciation of Illinois’ natural, cultural, and artistic heritage. The Museum’s extensive collections and research activities provide the foundation for exhibitions and public programs that tell the story of the land, life, people, and art of Illinois. The Illinois State Museum is headquartered in Springfield with branch facilities throughout the state. Admission is FREE at all Illinois State Museum sites.

 General Hours: Mon.- Sat. 8:30 A.M.-5:00 P.M.; Sun. Noon-5:00 P.M.; Closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Located at the corner of Spring and Edwards Streets, the ISM is in the Capitol Complex, just south of the State Capitol.

 General Hours: Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Sundays, Noon - 5:00 PM. Closed Saturdays and state holidays. Galleries closed during exhibit changes. Located 35 miles southwest of the Chicago Loop, one block from the crossroads of IL Routes 7 and 171 in historic downtown Lockport
