Cerma cerintha (Tufted Bird-dropping Moth)
This moth is one of many species that gets its name from its protective coloration. With its wings folded while resting on a leaf, it resembles a bird-dropping. This hides it from predatory birds.
This moth is small (1/2 inch wingspread). It has whitish hindwings, and forewings with patchy bluish and greenish-silver scales.
This species lives in the eastern United States and southern Canada. The larval host plants are roses, plums, cherries, and hawthorns.
