      Plum-stone dice

Women favored a dice game in which bets were wagered. The dice were made of five or more plum stones (Prunus seeds), each of which was painted or marked on one side and left blank on the other. Each player took turns rolling the dice by tossing them upwards and catching them in a small bowl or basket. The score of a player's roll was determined by counting the number of dice with marked surfaces showing and then assigning points based on a standard scoring system. Players kept track of their scores using straws, each of which counted one point. The winner was the first player to reach a set total number of points.
