Carex bicknellii (Prairie Sedge)
Prairie Sedge is a grasslike plant that grows in clumps in upland and wet prairies. Its leaves are long, narrow, and tapered to points. The stems are triangular. Prairie Sedge has male and female flowers. The male flowers are inside a cluster of brown scales at the base of each flower head. A female flower is a very small light brown scale that has a green vein. It blooms from mid-spring to early summer.
