Aesculus glabra (Ohio Buckeye)
Ohio Buckeye trees grow from Iowa east to western Pennsylvania, and as far south as Tennessee and Arkansas. it grows from 30 to 70 feet tall in rich moist valley soil and on mountain slopes, in some drier soils, and as a shrub along stream banks. This specimen shows the opposite, pinnately compound yellow-green leaves with saw-toothed edges. It also exhibits the yellow, four-petaled flowers in upright clusters. The one to two inch fruit is a poisonous dark brown seed in a pale brown spiny capsule.
