Sorghastrum nutans (Indian Grass)
Indian Grass is common in dry to mesic prairies, pastures, fields, and open savannas. It grows to seven feet tall. The narrow leaves can be two feet long, and have a pair of lobes at the point where they connect to the stem. The flower heads, which appear in midsummer and last until early fall, are reddish-brown. The seeds are hairy with twisted tips.
