Elymus canadensis (Canadian Wild Rye)
This specimen of Canadian Wild Rye shows the root system and graceful, long flower heads. It was found in a disturbed area, specifically, a railroad right of way. Canadian Wild Rye grows in moist to moderately dry prairie areas. It flowers from late spring to early fall and grows up to five feet tall.
