Andropogon gerardii (Big Bluestem)
This specimen of Big Bluestem shows the line formed at base of each leaf where it joins the stem and the triple clusters of flowers at the tips of branches. Big Bluestem grows across the prairie, especially in mesic areas. It can reach a height of nine feet. Flowering season is in the summer.
