By the next year, the Mormons had made 2,500 wagons to begin the long trip west to Salt Lake City, Utah. Patty Sessions and her husband were in the first group, leaving in the bitter cold of February, 1846.

All along the trail Mother Sessions served as midwife for her neighbors.
