This jacket was made by an Ojibwa (Chippewa) woman and purchased at Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin on the Ojibwa (Chippewa) Reservation. Because of its elaborate decoration and weight, it may have been made for the commercial market rather than personal use.
The jacket is made of cut and sewn muslin (four layers thick) and seed beads. The large floral motifs are of green (three shades), pink, rose metallic, yellow, gold, blue (four shades), red (three shades), and black on a white seed bead background. Two body panels are inset with two sleeves. The cuffs and the hem of the jacket have leather fringes. All edges are trimmed with red cloth. There are three pairs of red cloth ties to close the front of the jacket.Collection of the Illinois State Museum
