Excavation of a wall trench house, Cahokia Mounds Museum.
|The wall-trench house also functioned as an organizational device. That is, other facilities and household activities were arranged to best fit the physical confines and limitations of the home. Sleeping platforms, probably .30 - 1.0 meters in height, were aligned along one or more walls. When it was present, the central hearth was the focus of much activity, particularly in the winter. Also situated inside the house were a number of storage pits.|
