Animals: The inter-fingering of streams, lakes, and wetlands, with irregularly shaped expanses of slightly elevated land blanketed by forests and prairies created ideal habitats for a wide range of terrestrial animals. Species like the eastern turkey, fox and grey squirrels, and other forest dwellers are abundant. Because of the complex array of habitats, animals that prefer to live near the edges of wetlands, forests, and prairies such white-tailed deer, raccoon, and rabbit are also common.
