Backyard Wildlife Super Saturday

  Backyard Wildlife Super Saturday

SPRINGFIELD- On June 11, the Illinois State Museum will present “Backyard Wildlife” as part of its monthly Super Saturday at the Museum programs.  In celebration of “Leave No Child Inside Month,” the June Super Saturday will feature both indoor and outdoor activities. Children will create animal tracks with sidewalk chalk, search for wild critters on the Museum lawn, make recycled “binoculars,” and decorate paper bag animals. At 11:00 am, Springfield storyteller Cathy Mosley will present “Wild Tales: Stories of Nature” with the help of some puppet friends.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has declared June to be "Leave No Child Inside Month." Throughout the month, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is encouraging young people to spend more time outdoors enjoying natural resources and participating in Leave No Child Inside events scheduled across the state.

All Super Saturdays at the Illinois State Museum are designed for children 4-8 years old and are free and open to the public. Most activities can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes, although participants may stay as long as they wish. Parents are invited to participate with their children. The Super Saturday series is sponsored by Bank of Springfield. For more information contact Anna Studstill at 217-782-6044 or e-mail play@museum.state.il.us.

The Illinois State Museum promotes discovery, learning, and an appreciation of Illinois’ natural, cultural, and artistic heritage. The Museum’s extensive collections and research activities provide the foundation for exhibitions and public programs that tell the story of the land, life, people, and art of Illinois. The Illinois State Museum is located at 502 S. Spring Street (the corner of Spring and Edwards Streets) in Springfield, and is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.  Admission is free.  Parking is available nearby, and the building is ADA accessible.
