Short Vowels: a always 'a' as in 'father', never as in 'bad' or 'late'

e always 'e' as in 'bet'; never as in 'scene'

i always 'i' as in 'hit'; never as in 'pine'

o always 'o' as in 'note'; never as in 'pot'

Long Vowels: aa always 'a' as in 'father', but 'drawn out'

ee always 'a' as in 'made'; never as in 'reed'

ii always 'ee' as in 'reed'

oo either a drawn-out 'o' as in 'rode', or 'roam'; never as in 'look'

Consonants:** c 'ts' as in 'bits' or 'ch' as in 'church'; never as in 'cell' or 'call' (except in nc, when c changes to the 'j' sound as in 'orange')

h as in 'hay'

k as in 'kick' (except in nk, when k changes to the 'g' sound as in 'finger')

l as in 'low'

m as in 'mow'

n as in 'now'

p as in 'pipe' (except in mp, when p changes to the 'b' sound)

s as in 'sew' (except in ns, when s changes to the 'z' sound as in 'cans')

'sh' as in 'show' (except in m or n, when changes to the 'zh' sound as in 'vision')

t as in 'too' (except in nt, when t changes to the 'd' sound)

w as in 'way'
